Sir Walter Scott and Earl Haig are buried here.  Scott in Sep 1832, 26th, Haig in 1928.

1544 devastated by earl of Hertford’s men, and then 4 Nov the abbey was burnt.

1560 reformation:  commendator David Erskine, sub-prior and remaining 8 canons became protestant, but no new canons were admitted.  By 1580:  4 canons;  1584:  2;  1600:  all dead.

1786:  abbey bought by David Steuart Erskine, 11th earl of Buchan, who preserved it and made it into a garden.  (RICHARDSON AND WOOD)
