West Ravendale Alien Priory

In Lincolnshire.

The church and other appurtenances were granted to Beauport Abbey in the diocese of St Brieuc by Alan fitz Henry, count of Brittany, in 1202, and an alien priory was established.

The earliest record of a prior is in 1275, and following the injunctions of the Lateran Council of 1179 the prior here should have had companions.  The cell was doubtless non-conventual.

1381:  2 canons, with an income the same as the previous year.

It ceased to function before 1413.

The priory’s lands were granted by Henry IV to his wife Joan and passed to the collegiate church of Southwell in 1452  (KNOWLES).
