Guyzance Priory (Nunnery)

Also called Brainshaugh.  Northumberland

Priory of St Wilfrid was founded in the church granted to Alnwick Abbey c. 1147, confirmed by William bishop of Durham (died 1152).

Last record of a prioress:  1313.  Probable that nunnery became extinct at the Black Death.  C. 1349-50.

Later a cell here for 2 canons of Alnwick.  (KNOWLES)
