10) Hope found a large portion of an heraldic achievement from a monumental brass, c. 1470, consisting of helm and most of the mantling, but the crest and shield are missing. The material seems to be zinc. Another piece has a lady's head in a wimple on the flip side c. 1360 (H79).
Abbots were usually buried within the abbey walls, not, like ordinary canons, in the cemetery outside. Church, chapter-house or cloister walks were favourite places. Effigies or inscribed stones were usual (C/WC).
