On 23rd September 1495 Abbot Richard was elected diffinitor.
The Visitation Report of 1497 shows William Lammas now circator, the other Richard of Nottingham as having died, Thomas Stanley now sacrist, John York alias Wytton now sub-prior, and Robert Brownslowe now vicar at Ilkeston – he died in 1510. The posts of Robert Aston, Ralph Stanton (etc), George Slee are not mentioned, nor is the state of ordination of Geoffrey Glossop and John Spenser. There is a new Richard Gainsboroghe alias Banysbroghe. Robert Bredon sub-prior of Sulby Abbey is at St Mary’s for correction, and John Bebe at Sulby for the same purpose.
To end the century, in 1499/1500 St Mary’s Abbey had the plague and many died. In the final Visitation Report of the century, dated May 1500, either 12 or 15 canons are recorded, depending on which source one believes. The reduction in numbers seems to be due to the plague. John Bebe is back from Sulby and Richard Bredon is now chaplain of Ockbrook. There is no mention of John Monyash, John York alias Wytton, George Slee, Thomas Stanley, Richard Blackwall: one of these could well have been appointed vicar at Heanor. Geoffrey Glossop is now succentor, John Spenser sacrist, William Lammas novice master; Richard Gainsboroughe alias Banysbroghe has no recorded post; William Blackburn is still chaplain of Stanton. New names are Thomas Rede, James Kyntone and Gervase Caltone, novices, Leonard North novice but also sub-sacrist, and John Nottingham vicar of Kirk Hallam; Robert Irlande, a former Augustinian canon, was also at St Mary’s.
