Malthouse

*A deserted farm building 2 fields from Littlehay Grange (WARD).
*It is also near Boyah, so Colvin (C39GM) thought it was not one of Dale Abbey's as theirs were (i) in the Base Court, and (ii) part of Ockbrook Grange.  (See below for confusion re Littlehay and Ockbrook Granges.)

None of the present buildings precedes 18th century (C39GM).
They were demolished in the early 1980s, because I remember seeing them in a derelict condition.
Littlehay/ Ockbrook Grange

A farmhouse 1 1/4 miles from Ockbrook. There are traces of an old moat behind the house (WARD).

The site was the gift of the de Grendon family but it is not mentioned until 1535.

Ockbrook Grange was held by Francis Pole in 1540 and 1544.  In 1562 it went to Thomas Stanhope and was known as Little Hall Grange.

The present buildings are 19th century except for a long thatched row of cottages which are 17th century. (C39).

I am.unclear as to whether Ockbrook Grange and Littlehay Grange, Ockbrook are one and the same; in view of the change of name in 1562, I suspect so.
