Granges - Still More!
Griffe Grange

At the top (Western) end of the Via Gellia (i.e. the A5012, immediately W of Cromford, Derbyshire).

The present buildings are of no architectural interest.

Owned by Dale Abbey in the 13th century along with much land in Brassington, Hopton and other surrounding villages, mostly the gift of the Ferrars family.

Before the dissolution it was leased to Ralph Gell for 61 years at a rent of £4. 12s;  he retained possession by paying £300 and an annual rent of £4.  It was still in the family when Philip Gell died in 1842.

In 1939 it was owned by Henry Key (C39GM).
Southome Grange

In Dale itself but its whereabouts are unknown.

It was granted to Francis Pole at the dissolution, and in 1562 held by Thomas Stanhope.

Is it the same as the Southeridg Grange in the Morley register 4 August 1608? or Southwood Grange with 8 fireplaces in 1644?  A will dated 1733 mentions it (C39GM).
