South Transept

The east wall had 2 arched doorways, 1 into St Margaret's, 1 into St Werburgh's Chapel (HOPE, WARD).

The pier between these 2 had the Holy Rood altar (the laiety's altar) (WARD), a chantry altar within a parclose (HOPE).
Also it had a door on the south side into the sacristy and one on the west into the cloisters (HOPE) under the steps.  The doorway shown on Buck's sketch is surmounted with a segmental arch (WARD).
‘In the south-east angle is a doorway, descending by 2 or 3 steps into an oblong room, divided into 2 by a wall’ (H79).

A stone night stair was found, as at Torre, Bristol, Hexham and all Cistercian houses.

The dormitory was over the sacristy, slype, common room, and 2 western bays of the chapter house (HOPE).
