1343 summoned to appear before the barons of the Exchequer for failure to pay taxes to the crown. Licensed (for alienation in mortmain in satisfaction of 10/- of the 100/- yearly which they held of the licence) by Edward III to buy 60 acres of moor in Hopton (by Richard le Curson parson of Breadsall and William Shymmyng), and a toft, 7½  acres of land and a 1 acre of meadow in Stanton-by-Dale (by Robert de Sallowe) to the annual value of  5s. 2d (C41E).  Details of this permit are also in PAGE, COX18, and it is said in C/WC to be dated 4 May 1344.
 
‘Brother Michael, a canon of Candida Casa, has been sent by orders from Premontre to their house.  On account of its poverty they beg he may be sent elsewhere’ (M).

1345 Bishop Norbury appropriated half the Rectory of Egginton for Dale Abbey's benefit by licence (COX18, C41E).

The abbot was hard pressed to provide proper hospitality, so great were the numbers of people requesting food each day.  There was a tradition that all travellers and strangers were entertained and lodged at the abbey for one night and in the morning given supplies for their journey.

1345 supervised election of John R. to abbacy of St Radegund's, Kent, accompanied by the abbot of Bayham whom he’d asked to accompany him;  they made provision for the retiring of abbot Henry (C41E).
 
1346 Visitor again, along with the abbot of Newhouse (C41E).

Whereas the abbot of Premontre, the superior abbot of the Order, has appointed and deputed the abbots of Newhouse and la Dale to visit the houses of the Order in England and reform any abuse therein and they dare not without the King’s license [sic] levy what by virtue of their appointment they should have for securing the privileges of their Order, and their labours and expenses in that behalf;  the King hereby gives them special license to act upon the said appointment and levy what by right is reasonably due.  They are not however to send any tribute or cess to their said superior or to any other beyond the seas by any colour (COX18)
 
1347 Queen Isabella petitioned the Pope to appropriate the church of Gt Sturton (Lincs) to Tupholm.  This led to compensation.  Similarly, out of £19 6s. 8d. which Dale received from the churches of Ilkeston and Egginton, £7 7s. 8d. went to the Bishop and chapter of Lichfield, the prior of Coventry and the archdeacon of Derby for their loss of jurisdiction as a result of the appropriation (C/WC p. 281).
