William de Boney,   ruled 42 years 14 weeks (H83) from *1358 (C41) *1355 (WARD, M, PAGE) to *1397 (WARD, M, PAGE), *1400 (C41).
 
‘Shining forth by the token of honest conversation quite like a new founder’ (H83).
 
Re-edified many ruinous tenements" (H83, C41).
 
25 October 1361 Bishop Roger de Stretton stayed at Dale Abbey (details in C41E).
34 Edward III (1361) Thursday after the Feast of the Translation of St Thomas the Martyr.  Henry Duke of Lancaster, Earl of Derby, Lincoln and Lancaster, and Steward of England, releases to the Abbot and Convent of De La Dale, the 12s. of rent which they paid for land granted to them by Cicely, daughter and heir of Hugh de Ferrars, and which gift was confirmed by Robert de Ferrars.  The land was in Bracington, Hopton and Kersington.  Red seal of the arms of England.  (COX18, quoting the Historical MSS Commissioners’ 9th report, re MSS belonging to Henry Chandos Pole-Gell of Hopton Hall.  See entry above, under Abbot Hugh de Lincoln, 13th century).
 
1364 carried out visitation of the Hospital of St Leonard, Derby which had fallen into neglect through the carelessness of its wardens (C41E).  Repeated this in 1397 (in full in COX18) in company with the abbot of Darley and John Brewode clerk (C41E).

1364 The King granted a licence to acquire in mortmain £20 of land and rent annually not held in chief on condition they abbey prayed for him for ever (in full in COX18).
 
1365 acquired land in Derby by licence to acquire in mortmain after inquisition, to the value of 60s. annually, for lodging of victuals and other necessities(in full in COX18).
 
1366      Visit of the abbots of Welbeck, Dale and Croxton to Halesowen to supervise an election;  cost £20 4s. 4d.
 
1375 acquired land in Derby to the annual value of 10s. by licence to alienate by Geoffrey de Chaddesden parson of Long Whatton, Richard Whiteman of Stanley chaplain and Thomas Pouse of Elvaston chaplain to the abbot and convent of Dale, of a messuage held of the King in burgage to hold in satisfaction of 13/4 of the 60/- yearly in land and rent in Derby which they had the King’s licence to acquire (C41E).
