*1378 (COX18) *1379 (C41) The abbot lent Richard II 5 marks as a war loan;  the King promised to repay (C41E).
 
28 Nov 1381 The abbot complained that he had been ambushed and driven out of Derby by Thomas, son of Godfrey Foljambe, and John Smyth of Stanley, and was awarded 20s. damages, paid in the hanaper (C41E).
 
October (PAGE) 1382 acquired a licence for alienation in mortmain (C41E) of a messuage and 2 bovates of land in Trowell, 2 bovates and 2 acres in Lambercote and 6 acres of land in Radcliffe, the licence being obtained by William de *Ketelly *Ketelby chaplain and Ralph Palmer of Boney;  to the value of *4 marks (PAGE) *16/- (C41E) annually (PAGE), in part satisfaction (£20 but must mean 20/-) of lands which they had licence by letters patent of the late King to acquire in mortmain (C41E).
 
1383 acquired a licence for alienation in mortmain (C41E) of land in Stanton, Alvaston, Elvaston, Thulston, Bolton, Stanley, Kirk Hallam and Spondon to a yearly value of *50s. (C41) *£10 for Geoffrey de Chaddesdon [sic] rector of Long Whatton and John de Twiford vicar of Spondon (PAGE) ) in part satisfaction viz £10 yearly of lands to the annual value of £20 which they had licence by letters patent of the late King to acquire in mortmain (C41E).
 
*1385 (C41) *1386 (WARD) Hugh de Wyloghby clerk (PAGE) was licensed by Lord Zouche to appropriate the advowson of the rectory of Ilkeston (C41, in full in COX18).  This was transferred by trustees to avoid mortmain fine (C41E).
 
1386 (H83, C41). As a result of this, the abbot granted the dean and chapter of Lichfield 6/8d. per annum;  they had laid claim to the rectory for many years. This was still being paid in 1535 (C41E).
 
1391 The abbot obtained a licence, for 2 marks paid to the King by the abbot and convent of Dale, for the alienation in mortmain by them of a yearly rent of 26/8, not held in chief, from their lands and tenements in Stanley, co. Derby,  to John de Kirkeby chaplain and his successors celebrating divine service daily in the said abbot’s convents’ [sic] chapel of St Cross, Stanley, in aid of their maintenance.

June 1392 acquired as a grant by John Parker and William Wright chaplain land (5 messuages, 100 acres of land and 13 acres of meadow) in Elvaston, Stanley, Thulston and Alvaston not held in chief in full satisfaction of a licence granted by the late King to acquire in mortmain lands, tenements and rents of the yearly value of 100/- (C41E).  The original licence was surrendered and the letters patent cancelled (C41E).  The king allowed Dale Abbey to acquire £20 per annum of land and rent provided they prayed for him for ever (C41). 1395 The dignity of papal chaplain was conferred on Matthew Leche of Nottingham, canon of Dale (COX18).
